Honey is a versatile natural product of nature. Honey is made from bees using nectar from flowers. The taste, colour and flavour of honey can be influenced by the flowers that the bees take their nectar from. Honey contains vitamins and minerals like calcium, zinc, vitamin C, sodium, potassium, riboflavin, selenium, B6, and phosphorus. Honey has natural antibiotic qualities, which makes it an ideal remedy in killing bacteria and curing wounds. It can be taken externally and internally. Because of the many benefits of honey, a lot of cosmetic companies are using honey in their skin care products. The ways to use honey below, might get you reaching for a jar of honey when you next go to the shop.
What you'll need:
A jar of raw organic honey or unpasteurised honey.
1:
Adding a quarter or half a cup of honey to warm water for your bath, can relax and also moisturize your body
2:
Use honey instead of sugar to sweeten your drinks or food. If you are trying to lose weight, using honey in place of refined sugar will give you an energy boost. In other words, it’s a healthy carbohydrate and you don’t need too much to get a sweet taste. Remember, you can use honey for glazing your meats, vegetables, fruits and for baking.
3:
For sore throats and coughs, you can add two teaspoons of honey and half a juice of lemon to a cup of hot water. You can substitute herbal tea, or two teaspoons of ginger instead of lemon. This will soothe your throat and ease the inflammation in your throat.
4:
Use honey to treat pimples, mix some honey with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your face, leave on face for at least 10 minutes and rinse off with water. You can also just apply the honey to your face by itself. If applied regularly, it will make your face smooth and radiant. This mixture is also good for getting rid of blemishes; the honey will absorb the oil and impurities from the skin.
5:
Honey can be used to treat wounds. If you have a cut, minor burn or scrape, you can treat it with honey. Just apply a thin layer of honey and cover it with a sterilise bandage. The honey will keep out infections and speed up healing.
6:
Honey can help you to relax and sleep better. You can stir one teaspoon of honey into a warm milk or camomile tea. The honey will act as a mild sedative and get you into a calm and sleepy state.
Conclusion:
Honey is a cheap alternative to help in curing skin or health problems naturally.
Tips:
Always buy raw honey, because it’s full of the medicinal qualities needed for healing the body. If you can’t buy raw honey, get honey that has not been treated by heat.
Store honey at room temperature and keep away from direct sunlight. If your jar of honey crystallizes, just warm it up to remove the crystals.
Don’t cook honey, only gently warm it. Cooking honey destroys most of its nutritional qualities.
Try and support your local producers of honey by buying from them. This will help the bee population to grow in your area and more honey can be produced.
Warnings:
Don’t give honey to a child under one year old. In some rare cases, it can carry bacteria that can be harmful to very young children, but harmless to adults or older children.
