How To Stop Being a Shopaholic

Impulse shopping usually means buying items on a regular basis that we don’t really want or need. This often results in spending getting out of control and eventually running up massive debts on our credit cards. Many people will go on a spending spree as soon as their salary is in their bank account, leaving hardly anything to live on for the rest of the week/month. What can we do about it?
Experts say that shopaholics aren’t addicted to possessions – they are addicted to the buzz of seeing something, wanting it and getting it. They may even lose interest in the item as soon as it’s been purchased, and not even bother to take it out of the bag
Even thinking about something they want can bring on this compulsive craving. And it's not just clothes, some people find it impossible to resist kitchen gadgets!
One shock-tactic aimed at shopaholics by life-coaches is to taking all the compulsive purchases (clothes, kitchen equipment, etc) and put them in an unruly heap in a prominent place in the home where you have to step over them every day for a week.
Take a photograph of your heap and put it in your wallet next to the credit cards; keep the photo on your mobile as wallpaper where you will constantly see it, and anywhere else where it’s likely to make you feel guilty when you get the urge to shop.
Keep these photographs in plain sight and try to stay away from your favourite shops for three weeks – because this is the time it takes to break the habit, according to the experts.
Fine yourself for having the urge to shop by putting 10% of the potential purchase price of an impulse buy into a sealed piggy bank. This way you benefit from fighting the urge, without giving in to it.
Look at these purchases and ask yourself how much pleasure they’ve given you. Have your ever worn/used it? If not, save more money by give new items away as gifts for birthdays and Christmas.
Dispose of older items by taking them to your local charity shop, or fund-raiser.
Really expensive items can be sold on e-bay to recoup some of your expenditure.
