How To Make Grandmother’s Apple Chutney

Your rating: None
Nothing can beat the taste of home-made pickles and chutneys. Unfortunately with the increase of convenience foods, much of the old skills in the kitchen have fallen from favour.
What you'll need:
3/4 lb brown sugar
1 lb cooking apples
3/4 lb raisins
3/4 lb onions
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon salt
1 pint vinegar
1:
Peel and core the apples. Put them with the raisins and onions through a mincer or blender.
2:
Put vinegar and sugar in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Add all the other ingredients and bring back to the boil.
3:
Simmer for 20 minutes to half an hour, stirring all the time.
4:
Put into warm Kilner jars and allow to cool before sealing
Conclusion:
There is still a tremendous satisfaction in seeing a well-stocked larder of homemade produce waiting to be enjoyed out of season.
