How to make easy, perfect rice

Your rating: None Average: 5 (1 vote)
This is a reliable, easy recipe for cooking rice perfectly in around 20 minutes.
What you'll need:
350g rice (serves about 4-6)
Saucepan (with lid)
Olive oil
Pour the 350g of rice (change amount according to amount of people eating) into a medium sized bowl and fill it with cold water. Mix the rice around until the water becomes cloudy then drain it with the sieve. Repeat this step 3 or 4 times until the water starts to become clear. This removes the starch from the rice and stops it becoming sticky when you cook it. Whilst you're doing this, fill and boil the kettle.
Once the kettle has boiled, add a small amount of olive oil to the bottle of the saucepan and heat for around 20 seconds. This stops the rice sticking to the bottom of the pan. Pour the rice into the saucepan and cover with around 1cm of boiling water from the kettle.
Add a small pinch of salt and place the lid on to cook on the hob on a medium heat for 7 minutes.
After 7 minutes, turn off the hob and allow the rice to steam for a further 7 minutes. Do not remove the lid as it allows the head to escape.
After the second 7 minutes, remove the lid and give the rice a quick stir with a fork. Congratulations, it's now ready to eat! Either serve or return the lid to keep the heat in until you need it.
This is the quickest and easiest recipe I've found for cooking rice and it's cooked it perfectly every time I've tried it.
