How to Make a Margarita

Your rating: None Average: 5 (1 vote)
A well-made Margarita is a simple, wonderfully balanced and piquant example of cocktail-making at its best. Often ruined by overly-sweet pre-made sweet and sour mix, creating America's favourite cocktail requires only a minimum of equipment and a little cocktail know-how.
What you'll need:
Boston shaker
Mixing glass
Strainer
Martini/Margarita glass
Cubed ice
Tequila (gold or silver)
Triple Sec/Cointreau
Fresh lime
Salt
1:
Fill a Martini/Margarita glass with crushed ice and water and place it in the fridge.
2:
To an ice-filled mixing glass add 50ml/1.5oz of good quality gold or silver tequila, 25ml/.75oz Triple Sec or Cointreau and the fresh juice of half a lime.
3:
Place the Boston tin on top of the mixing glass, ensuring a good seal. Shake vigorously until frost forms on the outside of the tin.
4:
Remove the chilled glass from the fridge discarding the ice and water. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass before rolling it gently in sea salt. Shake the glass gently to remove any excess salt.
5:
Using the strainer, strain the cocktail into the chilled glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or a spiral of lime zest.
Conclusion:
The sheer simplicity of this graceful cocktail makes balance even more important than normal. You should therefore be careful about correctly measuring the ingredients.
Tips:
Use the highest quality spirits you can afford. You can taste the difference.
Ensure that you only use fresh ingredients.
Make sure the mixing glass is filled with ice as using less will result in dilution and weakening of the cocktail.
