How To Make Coffee In a Percolator

One might argue that coffee is in fact the true opiate of the masses. However you like it, coffee is a hugely popular beverage enjoyed in countless ways in various cultures. Percolator coffee is one distinctive style.
What you'll need: 
Coffee beans/grounds
Coffee grinder
Percolators yield a strong and distinctive style of coffee more suited to those who prefer the full flavour and 'bitterness' of fresh beans or grounds. The strength is however determined to a large extent by the coffee bean varietal.
Fresh grounds are required when using a percolator. These may be either shop-bought or freshly-ground using your own grinder. One heaped scoop of grounds should be used per cup of coffee. The number of scoops will also be determined by the capacity of the percolator.
Coarse grounds are preferable when using a percolator as they are less likely to boil over into your cup. Fine grounds may also be used however as many grinders are only able to create grounds of one size.
Unscrew the bottom section of the percolator and fill with clean water. Place the grounds in the middle section known as the 'brew basket'. Screw the top section back on until tightly sealed.
Having closed the lid, place the percolator on the gas/electric hob. Allow the water to boil and begin bubbling through into the top of the percolator.
Once the top of the percolator has filled, turn off the heat and remove from the hob, placing it on a cool, insulated surface.
Pure percolated coffee can now be served in your preferred manner.
Once the water has boiled turn the heat down slightly to avoid boiling over.
Clean the percolator as soon as possible.
The percolator should be cleaned thoroughly as any remaining grounds or oils will alter the taste when the percolator is next used.
Place the percolator on an insulated surface once you have removed it from the heat source.
