Maths involving fractions can initially seem very daunting, however once you know the methods it's actually not so difficult. This guide will show you a quick and easy way to divide fractions. An example will be used to help you along the way.
What you'll need:
Pen
Paper
1:
Example: 1/4 ÷ 10/4 = ?
2:
Turn the second fraction upside down to form the reciprocal, so 10/4 becomes 4/10
3:
Now you have to multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal: 1/4 x 4/10 = ?
4:
Multiply the two numerators (top numbers): 1x4 = 4
5:
Multiply the two denominators (bottom numbers): 4x10 = 40
6:
This leaves you with a fraction of: 4/40
7:
Simplify the fraction if possible, so in this case: 4/40 = 1/10
8:
Therefore: 1/4 ÷ 10/4 = 1/10
