How to have the best pancake day

Tuesday 8th March is pancake day, otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday it is the day before Ash Wednesday which was traditionally the first day of Lent when people fasted.

So eating pancakes grew out of the desire and need for a last feast before fasting. These days it is traditional to make and eat pancakes without the fasting through Lent.

Pancakes are very quick and easy to make, the basic ingredients are flour, egg and milk, but there is a huge variety of ways you can eat pancakes and different toppings.

We have a few contributors who have published some great ways to eat pancakes for this pancake day, for example: How to make Crepes Suzette, which is what the French call pancakes, as well as How to make caramelised apple pancakes. Here is just the traditional way to eat pancakes with lemon and sugar, How to make a pancake.

We hope you find these interesting and that you get out your frying pan and start flipping those pancakes.
